New Year, New Fitness Goals.
NO More Excuses!
Tips To Reach Your New Years Fitness Goals https://xtremefitstpete.com/tips-for-reaching-your-new-years-fitness-goals/
· Get a workout buddy. You may know someone in your life who resolved to start exercising in the New Year. Begin your fitness journey together. It will increase your chances for success and you’ll have more fun. For this to work, you have to find an exercise that both of you enjoy.
· Change behavior reasonably. We all have bad habits. However, trying to change more than one bad behavior at a time can be a recipe for failure. Decide which goal is your priority. Focusing on one goal at a time can improve your chance at success.
· Be realistic. One of the biggest problems with New Year’s resolutions is they can be extremely impractical. Setting realistic goals is important because knowing you can attain your goal helps keep up your motivation. A realistic goal is a goal you know you can achieve, even if it might take a lot of work or time to accomplish.
· Appreciate and be kind to yourself. Recovery and a healthy mindset are as important as the sweat sessions. Make sure to take that seriously this year. Practicing self-love often takes hard work, and no day will be 100 percent perfect. It’s all about making the conscious decision to look in the mirror and point out the parts of yourself that are incredible.
· Use an App. Most of us are already on our phones most of the time anyway, so why not download just one fitness app to help guide you through your gym goals for the new year?
· Get a personal trainer. Trainers are in the prime position to assist and facilitate those dreams into becoming reality. The can help keep you motivated, make sure you are performing exercises properly and introduce you to new ideas to keep things fresh and interesting.
· Just move your body. Including movement in your everyday routine is a great place to start when it comes to crafting fitness resolutions for the new year. Find some type of movement that you enjoy doing, and do that. Doing what truly makes you happy is the key to crafting a workout routine that seems less like work, and more like fun.
Let’s Get Moving!!
-Sit and Get Fit-
Is restricted movement your excuse for not exercising?? Maybe an injury or lack of flexibility is your current reason for not moving your body more. Of course, you should consult your doctor if you have concerns about what you should or shouldn’t do related to exercise. However, chair exercise can be a solution for many with limited mobility. When I was recovering from knee surgery, chair exercise really supported my overall sense of well-being and helped me stay physically strong. There are tons of chair workouts on YouTube whether you’re a beginner or your fitness level is advanced. You can literally sit and get fit! In 2022 we are NOT making excuses, we’re finding Solutions! -K-
Imposter Syndrome. Ever Heard of it?
In simple terms, imposter syndrome is the experience of feeling like a phony—you feel like any moment you’re going to be discovered as a fraud—you don't belong where you are, and you only got there via dumb luck. Have you ever had those feelings or does that sound crazy to you?
I first heard about this phenomenon watching the Tamron Hall show on daytime TV. (FYI-she has some great guests, y’all. Check her out. No wonder her show is in its third season).
Anyway, she interviewed Dr. Jennifer Hunt, a therapist who works with clients dealing with chronic issues around managing their inner critic; a symptom of imposter syndrome.
The older I get the more I recognize that there are at least two distinct voices in my head. The one (my favorite) is loving and kind. It’s my encourager, the one that cheers me on and tells me I can do it and everything will be okay. It’s the source of my confidence. It loves me and always has my best interest at heart.
There’s also this other voice, my inner critic, who is negative and afraid. It’s the one that always wants to say there’s no way, so just forget about it! It’s the voice that prefers to take the safe, easy route out of fear that something might go wrong, and I’ll either be disappointed or fail. That voice says No in those times when I know the right answer is Yes.
The takeaway is, we all have at least two voices of our inner selves. In some people the descending voice has been all but silenced. These are people that often demonstrate enormous courage and believe there is nothing they can’t do. Or maybe they feel the fear but do it anyway. It’s the attitude of many folks who are professionally highly successful. However, they may or may not be as successful in other areas of their lives.
In some other people the self-defeating side can dominate. These people can often come off as negative. They have limited confidence in their own ability and as a result they project that into the world. Rather than get excited about possibilities and what could be, they focus on why they can’t do it, why you shouldn’t do it either, and it’s all just a waste of time.
Being the Libran woman I am, my natural default is to find balance in everything. I believe balance can be found on this by tuning into the voice inside that is loving and kind and clearly concerned with your best interest. It’s the voice of your spirit (God) encouraging you to embrace the challenge even though it might look tough. Hard work is a necessary element of the journey of growth into the person you were created to be. Turn down that other voice. It means to hold you back from all that you could become.
I hope anyone struggling with these competing voices will find strength in knowing you are not alone. But understand that nothing negative comes from God. That voice that speaks lovingly and kind is the one to turn up the volume on! Watch and see what happens when you do! Be blessed. -K-
